IBC Extension specialist Randie Culbertson has planned the event with a variety of learning opportunities from various speakers.
Culbertson said there is an exciting lineup of presenters, from leading geneticists in beef cattle, bull buyers, and breeders who use the tools available to make genetic improvements to their herds.
“This year’s genetic symposium will focus on the bull,” she said. “Understanding the tools available to you for genetic selection can help you choose the right bull for your operation. We will also have demonstrations on carcass ultrasound and bull development.”
Attendees will be able to hear from a bull stud panel, a keynote speaker on bull buying, and a producer panel that focuses on bull selection from a seedstock perspective. A fun evening activity includes a mock bull sale, after which the drivers for bidding and buying behavior will be broken down and discussed.
Symposium topics include:
- Current events on genetic prediction
- Bull fertility
- Data collection
- Adaptability and selection
- Carcass ultrasound demonstration
