Alfred M. Blackmer, Professor; Jun Zhang, Postdoctoral Research Associate,
Agronomy, Iowa State University. Recent advances in technology have prompted
considerable interest of using mid-season applications to improve nitrogen
management for corn. We have observed a number of problems with commonly used
techniques for diagnosing deficiencies of N and these problems result in unnecessary
applications of nitrogen. Discussion will focus on the nature of the problems
observed and how these can be avoided.
