Project; John Rodecap, Project Coordinator, Maquoketa Watershed Project; Gerald
Miller, Associate Dean, College of Agriculture, Iowa State University. Manure,
phosphorus and nitrogen management issues continue to be focal points for Iowa
crop and livestock producers as operating margins are squeezed and new environmental
regulations become effective. To evaluate manure and nutrient management strategies,
eastern Iowa producers hosted nutrient management field demonstrations during
the past five cropping seasons. Results show that livestock and crop operations
can refine manure, phosphorus and nitrogen application rates while reducing
the environmental impact of their operations and improving net returns from
manure and commercial nutrients.
