The presentation will summarize results of a study conducted in NE, Central and SE Iowa comparing stream bank erosion rates along forest or grass buffered, grazed, or row cropped riparian areas. Total contributions of sediment and phosphorus from the banks to the streams generally followed from highest to lowest the order of land-uses presented above depending on the type of grazing conducted. Stream banks along continuously grazed pastures often were similar to banks along row-cropped fields while banks along rotationally grazed pastures produced less.
