Brian Gelder, Research Assistant; Rick Cruse, Professor, Agronomy, Iowa State University. Factors influencing soil erosion, such as land management and climate are dynamic. Several of these factors, such as larger crop residue market for biomass energy, the future of CRP, and global climate change, are critical in light of tolerable soil loss limits and future conservation needs. The potential impact of owner/operators vs. rented land arrangements (which continue to increase) could also play major roles affecting incentives to control soil and water loss.
