C7 - Heartland Water Quality Coordination Initiative Animal Manure Management Team.To print the slides below, click the printer icon on the menu bar above the slides. John D. Lawrence, Professor, Economics Department, Iowa State University. The Heartland Animal Manure Management Team is working to improve communication and coordination of the three institutions (regulatory, technical service, and education) across the four Heartland states (Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri). Revised CAFO regulations and Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan guidelines have increased the level of confusion for livestock producers and their consultants and increased the need for closer cooperation between the three agencies working with producers. The presentation will illustrate the manure management regulations and practices in the four states and how Heartland is working to improve consistency in the message across the states and organizations. Heartland Water Quality Coordination Initiative: Nutrient and Pesticide Management Team.Jamie L. Benning, Extension Educator, Department of Biological Systems Engineering, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Nutrient and Pesticide Management Team coordinates research-based information, education, and extension resources of the land-grant universities related to non-point source water pollution and management of agricultural nutrients and pesticides. Through strengthening of multi-state and interagency partnerships, the Heartland Initiative seeks to make these resources more accessible to federal, state, and local water quality improvement efforts in EPA Region 7.
