Master Gardener Class on Campus

Class on Campus is an in-person, day-long workshop that provides an in-depth exploration of select topics from the Master Gardener training course.

Class on Campus is led by campus experts and graduate assistants from Iowa State University. Students will spend the day rotating through hands-on workshops in Entomology, Botany, Soils, Plant Pathology, and Landscape Design in Ames. Registration includes course materials, snack, and boxed lunch.

Registration preference will be given to Spring 2024 Master Gardener trainees, followed by Fall 2023 trainees as space allows.

Registration is limited to maintain class sizes no larger than 36 per session.

All students will rotate through 5 topics during the day:

  • Botany
  • Entomology
  • Greenhouse Production
  • Landscape Design
  • Plant Pathology

You will be provided with a tote bag, lab worksheets and handouts, and a magnifying glass. Other things you may want to bring include:

  • a writing utensil
  • reusable water bottle
  • notebook or paper

Lodging

A block of rooms is available at the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center, 2100 Green Hills Drive, in Ames.

Reservations may be completed online or by calling (515) 292-8600 and mentioning the Iowa Master Gardeners. Rooms will be held until March 23, 2024 or until the block has filled. The room rate is $129 per night.

Reminders

  • Class size is limited and pre-registration is required to attend. Registrations accepted on a first-come, first-paid basis. Registration will be closed if the course reaches capacity.
  • Registration is final. There will be no refunds of registration fees for this course. Substitutions will be allowed.
